Unlike Texas health insurance, dental options are very limited and hard to come by. It is common place for employer group policies to offer dental and if that's the case, you're all set. The individual Texas dental market is where things change and get very cloudy. Very few health insurance companies offer dental as an "add on" benefit and if they do it either has a low maximum benefit or is to cost prohibitive to purchase. Based on this information what are your options?
Currently the Texas health insurance companies that are offering dental insurance and benefits are Aetna, Humana, Unicare, Blue Cross and Blue Shield and World Insurance Company. These plans offer a more traditional approach to dental coverage with adequate preventive services and coverage for the more complex procedures. Some though have a yearly maximum cap for services, so review your dental policy carefully or speak to a qualified broker to review the limitations. A few individual health insurance companies offer dental benefits that should be classified as discount in nature.
Anytime you are reviewing dental insurance or discount dental plans it is important to research the dentist network to confirm that dentist in your area accepts a particular plan.
Several years ago we always had our dental through a discount dental plan. We were quite happy with the program, and you can't beat the price. Most discount dental plans run about $20 to $40 a month depending on the structure. We offer several different discount dental programs to fit your needs.
Also, we have found it wise to simply contact your current family dentist and ask if he has a discounted fee structure. We have found a few dentist offer their own version of an in house discount dental plan.
